Red Cross Red Crescent Response to Emergency, Essential Health Care, and Humanitarian Aid

[Ramallah, 4/10/2023] – The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in partnership with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and funded by the Chinese Government, today launched the Project "Red Cross Red Crescent Response to Emergency, Essential Health Care, and Humanitarian Aid” Under the Background of Covid-19 Epidemic. The project aims to contribute to saving lives and alleviating the suffering of vulnerable Palestinians with the additional hazard of the COVID-19 pandemic, through supporting PRCS Emergency Medical Services, Secondary Health Care and Primary Health Care Services.”

 

During a press conference held at PRCS HQ, PRCS President Dr. Younis Al-Khatib said that the project became possible through the Chinese government's generous support, which comes  in partnership with IFRC. Dr. Al-Khatib reaffirmed that PRCS is committed to developing its services and programs to provide the highest quality services to the marginalized and most vulnerable communities. He went on to say that through this project, PRCS's Emergency Medical Services will be strengthened to effectively respond to emergencies while taking specific precautions related to pandemics.  The Health Care services provided by PRCS will also be enhanced to support the Palestinian population through its different facilities and programs in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

His Excellency Ambassador Zeng Jixin, Head of Office of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine, stated this Project is funded bythe Chinese Government, and implemented regionally by RCRC national societies, including the Lebanese Red Cross and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, in addition to PRCS. The project will span a duration of 12 months, commencing on the 15th of September 2023, with a budget of 384,029 USD allocated to support PRCS services in Palestine. He also added that the project comes as part of the global commitment of the People’s Republic of China to support vulnerable communities facing different hazards, especially those relevant to health and pandemics.  

Mr. Faisal Mahboub, head of the IFRC Country Delegation in Palestine, thanked the Chinese Government for their support in addressing the critical healthcare and humanitarian needs of vulnerable Palestinians during these challenging times.
