A Community-Based Health Awareness Course Concludes in the Gaza Strip

(Gaza - 31/1/2018) PRCS’s Primary Health Care Department concluded on January 31, 2018 a training course on Community-Based Health Awareness and Community-Based First Aid targeting the Society’s volunteers in Deir el Balah, Khan Younes, Al Zaytoon and Al Shaja’iyeh in the Gaza Strip.

Twenty volunteers took part in this four-day course held at PRCS’ headquarters in the Gaza Strip with support from the German Red Cross. The course covered an array of topics, mainly training methodology, voluntary services, basic needs, health promotion and disease prevention, community assessment and tools, communications, drafting needs’ assessment plans in cooperation with relevant local community institutions and members, as well as follow-up and evaluation techniques.

It also featured practical training sessions whereby participants were split into groups which met with community focal points, organized home visits and talked to prominent community members.

According to Dr. Ramez Al Doosh, PHC Director in the Gaza Strip, the course “aimed at building the capacity of volunteers working with PRCS’ Committee in Al Shaja’iyeh in the field of community awareness in order to improve the health services they provide. It also covered the basics of community-based tools and plans”.

Iman Loulou (24), a Committee volunteer, said: “This course was very useful. It taught me how to be proactive, avoid repeating my mistakes and how to better interact with community members. The course improved participants’ communication, follow-up and evaluation skills. It also taught us effective planning and successful management skills”.
