The Jerusalem Intellectuals’ Forum and Qatar’s Committee for the Support of Jerusalem Honor Photojournalist Zuhdi Al Tarifi

(Ramallah – 4/12/2012): The Jerusalem Intellectuals’ Forum (JIF, Al Quds University) and Qatar’s ‎Committee for the Support of Jerusalem honored Mr. Zuhdi Al Tarifi, photojournalist at PRCS/Balsam Magazine, for his work in the media field over the past twenty years. 54 other Palestinian media personalities from the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip were also honored in a ceremony held at Al Quds University.


The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Ahmad Qurei (Abu Ala’a), Member of the Executive Committee of the PLO and Head of the Jerusalem Department thereof. It was attended by Dr. Talal Abou Afifeh, President of the JIF, Mr. Adnan Al Husseini, Jerusalem Governor and Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, Mr. Hatem Abdelkader, Secretary of Qatar’s Committee for the Support of Jerusalem, Mr. Ahmad Al Ruweidi, Advisor to the Palestinian Presidency on Jerusalem affairs, Mr. Nabil Amre, prominent media personality and Dr. Abdelnasser Al Najjar, President of the Order of Journalists.


Zuhdi Al Tarifi’s career started in Beirut at PRCS’ Balsam Magazine in the early 1980s. He covered the tragedies of the Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the Beirut siege in 1982 as well as events in Tripoli in 1983. He then moved to Syria and from there to Cyprus and the Gaza Strip. He finally settled in the West Bank where he covered the 2002 Israeli incursions. Al Tarifi, who still works at PRCS Balsam Magazine, was arrested and harassed several times in the course of duty.
