(Jenin, 8-9-2011): In cooperation with the Civil Defense Directorate in Jenin, PRCS’ Disaster Management Unit (DMU) held a course on Civil Defense Science with the participation of 30 volunteers from PRCS Disaster Management team.
According to Eng. Basheer Ahmad, Head of the DMU in the West Bank, this course is in line with the MoU signed between PRCS and the Civil Defense Directorate in 2008, which calls for coordination between the two bodies when organizing training courses with a view to training qualified and specialized teams.
Eng. Sami Hamdan, Head of the Civil Defense Directorate in Jenin Governorate, said that this course is part of a training plan aimed at training qualified volunteers capable of facing risks and dangers in times of disasters.
The course tackled issues such as firefighting, rescuing, an introduction to ambulances, firefighting trucks and fire extinguishers, public and home safety as well as firefighting and evacuation methods in times of emergencies and disasters.
Mr. WalidAbou el Hayja, DMU coordinator in Jenin Governorate, said that this 25-hour course is part of constant coordination and cooperation between DMU and the Civil Defense Directorate. “We are currently working on a joint training plan for both PRCS and Civil Defense volunteers in the Governorate”, he added.
DMU has been training and equipping a team comprising 350 volunteers in Jenin Governorate. This team benefited from a number of courses in various fields including Disaster Preparedness, Water and Sanitation, Sphere Standards, Assessment in times of Disasters, Warehouse Management and Mitigating the effect of Earthquakes.
