UAE Ambassador to Jordan visits PRCS

Al Bireh- (3112010): Dr. Abdallah Nasser Sultan Al Ameri, the UAE Ambassador to Jordan and Non-Resident Ambassador to the Palestinian National Authority, visited Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) headquarters in Al Bireh in the West Bank today. The visit aimed at enhancing cooperation between the UAE and its Red Crescent Society on the one hand, and PRCS on the other.

Ambassador Al Ameri and his accompanying delegation met with several PRCS officials who presented humanitarian services provided by PRCS in Palestine and the Diaspora, as well as the main challenges it faces, mainly Israeli occupation practices in the West bank and the Gaza Strip. They also touched on future projects to be implemented by PRCS and its Emirati counterpart as well as continuous and fruitful cooperation between both Societies to the benefit of Palestinians.

In his welcome address, PRCS Vice-President Dr. Abdallah Sabri, lauded historical ties between Palestinians and Emiratis as well as the continuous support provided by the Government, people and Red Crescent Society in the UAE to Palestinians.

Mr. Samih Abou Eisheh, PRCS Secretary General and Head of PRCS/Hebron, touched on the MoU signed between the two Societies on 15 April 2010. This MoU, he said, clearly reflects the deep ties and strong cooperation between the two organizations.

Ambassador Al Ameri expressed his joy at this visit to Palestine in general and to PRCS in particular. He valued the great efforts made by PRCS through its numerous services and programs in order to ease the suffering of Palestinians and to heal their wounds in both their homeland and the Diaspora.

“The UAE gives attention to the Palestinians’ needs with special focus on humanitarian and relief fields. We work for and focus on Palestine, therefore, a large part of the support provided by our Society is directed at projects and programs implemented in the OPT. This is the least we can do for Palestine”, he said. Al Ameri added that the UAE National Society shall develop its activities and strengthen its presence in Palestine.

Mr. Rabah Jabr, PRCS Head of Operations and Programs, said that the MoU recently signed between the two institutions aims at organizing the Emirati Society’s work in Palestine, to the benefit of Palestinians. He also touched on PRCS’ role in Lebanon and Syria, saying it plays the role of a Ministry of Health. He underlined PRCS’ services and programs in Palestine, explaining that it runs six hospitals in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem, as well as 27 centers and units for the rehabilitation of the disabled, 40 Primary Health Clinics and 36 EMS centers.

At the end of the visit, Ambassador Al Amiri promised to examine all projects, plans and programs that could enhance and develop his national Society’s work in Palestine, including opening two representation offices in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and strengthening cooperation with its Palestinian counterpart.
