After the flooding in the Gaza Valley The Palestine Red Crescent Society declares state of emergency in Gaza to encounter the hard weather conditions

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) declares a state of emergency on Monday (Jan 18, 2010) to cope with severe weather conditions which have resulted in significant damages in the Gaza Valley due to floods.
Since the first moment of the flooding, and through its operations room, the PRCS has dispatched its teams and volunteers to the flooded area to evacuate dozens of affected residents and to search for the missing ones.
The Society’s teams have evacuated many trapped families in the areas of the Al Mughraqa, Nuseirat camp, and Hajar Al Deik. There, PRCS has distributed relief items and tents for those homeless families. The floods have caused complete destruction for 5 houses, and partial destruction for 11 houses. Assistance will be provided in the coming days for around 110 families.
What has worsened the situation is the flooding of water from the Green Line area which borders the Gaza Valley.
The rising waters flooded dozens of homes, farmlands and livestock pens. The Gaza Valley, a low lying farming area, is situated to the south of Gaza City and mostly inhabited by Bedouins.
The flooding has made life more difficult for the Gazans who are still unable to rebuild their lives after the last Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
