At the General Assembly of the IFRC in Nairobi: PRCS receives the Henry Davison Award for outstanding humanitarian services

On the 19th of November 2009, PRCS received the Henry Davison Award during the IFRC’s General Assembly held from November 17 to 25 in the Kenyan Capital Nairobi.

The award was presented to Dr. Jean Calder, Head of the Rehabilitation and Capacity Development Program at PRCS, who expressed her joy at receiving this valuable award which she considered as the fruit of four decades of humanitarian services by PRCS in order to provide relief to Palestinians and to heal their wounds.

The award, named after the IFRC’s founder, is given in recognition of outstanding services to improve the lives of vulnerable people. National Societies present their candidates and the winner is selected by a special committee according to specific criteria.

Dr. Calder is Australian and has worked as a volunteer with PRCS for three decades first in Lebanon, then in Egypt and finally in the Gaza Strip. She is also the Dean of the PRCS Capacity Development College located in Khan Younes Governorate.

It is also to be noted that on the 10th of November 2009, which coincided with the 5th death anniversary of late President Arafat, PRCS had also received from the Yasser Arafat Foundation the Yasser Arafat Prize for Achievement. This prize is awarded to philanthropic organizations for their leading role at the service of the Palestinian society.
