PRCS President participates in a conference for the Red Cross/ Red Crescent National Societies in Syria

 Damascus – PRCS President, Dr. Younis Al-Khatib and members of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent participated in the 6th General Conference of the National Societies in the Middle East and North Africa, which was held in Damascus on the 23rd and 24th of June 2009.

Delegates from 15 National Societies participated in this event, which included discussions of the roles of these National Societies in supporting their governments while pursuing the humanitarian tasks. Delegates also got acquainted with experiences of each National Societies in this area, and to the methods of its support and development.

In his turn, Dr. Younis Al-Khatib reviewed the experiences of PRCS in supporting PLO and PNA, in health and social sectors, in both homeland and Diaspora.

He also briefed on the latest humanitarian developments in the Occupied Palestinian territory, and the latest updates on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of PRCS facilities, that were destroyed by the latest Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.

Dr. Al-Khatib also commended efforts exerted by the National Societies who participated in the conference in supporting the PRCS and the Palestinian Society.

In addition, Dr. Al-Khatib and the accompanying delegation visited PRCS facilities in Syria, and met with their cadres and volunteers. He also emphasized the importance of exchanging experiences among generations, for the purpose of providing optimal humanitarian services for Palestinians everywhere.
