PRCS volunteers in Hebron participated in the painting of the largest mural of Jerusalem on the 30th of May 2009, which is a symbol of civilization and history, and the capital of Arab culture for 2009. The mural included paintings of the Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem walls and gates, paintings of Al-Haram Al Ibrahimi, as well as poetic and national expressions about Jerusalem.
More than 50 volunteers participated in this artwork under the supervision of the Palestinian artist, Samih Abu Zakiyah, who was also in partnership with the Director of Education in Hebron, and the Happy Childhood Compound - which is an extension of the Hebron Municipality.
Abu Zakiyah expressed his joy towards the accomplishment of this artwork, and said "we accomplished this mural in a short time yet with great effort for the sake of beautifying our city".
The preparations for this activity had begun in early May, beginning with the painting of the outer walls of the Hussein Bin Ali High school, and the entrance to the Happy Childhood compound and the PRCS community center, as well as the ambulance and EMS headquarter center, with the goal to paint the largest mural of Jerusalem in Hebron.
PRCS volunteers Amar Al Zughayr, Baha' Al Muhtasab, and Osama Abu Subeih expressed their joy for their participation in accomplishing such a great task.
Sa'eed Al Khatib, Director of the PRCS Community Center, praised Abu Zakiyah's role in which his paintings simulate Palestinian History, and commended the efforts of the Happy Childhood compound, the Board of Education, and the administration of Hussein Bin Ali High School.
Heithem Al Natsha, of the Happy Childhood Community, expressed his gratitude for his participation in the campaign, which enabled him to work creatively with the volunteers. He quotes, "this piece of artwork had given Abu Zakiyah a feeling that there is possibility for creativity and change, and beautifying many places in Hebron".
