On the 24th of March 2009, PRCS/Nablus Branch hosted a special celebration on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. The celebration, which was organized by the Red Cross office in the city, featured a number of events including the projection of two films on the protection of women in times of war and visits to Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, as well as Palestinian Dabkeh interludes presented by students from PRCS school for the hearing impaired and from Balata school for girls.
In his welcoming speech, Bassel Hamdi Kan’aan, Head of the Administrative Committee at PRCS/Nablus, stressed the importance of respecting the right of women to protection in times of war. He lauded Palestinian women -who manage to overcome differences and obstacles- for their many achievements in various fields. He also congratulated PRCS female employees and volunteers on this occasion.
On a different level, a team comprising physical and occupational therapists as well as social and psychological counselors from PRCS/Nablus implemented a number of activities within the “Outreach” Project in villages around Nablus Governorate. A total of 70 students benefited from these activities.
Moreover, a delegation from Nablus Governorate Police Directorate visited the PRCS Home for the Elderly on the occasion of Mother’s Day. The delegation congratulated the Home’s employees and elderly mothers on this occasion, and offered them symbolic gifts.
