PRCS’ branch in Anabta was established in 1994 thanks to efforts by the town’s population whether living in Palestine or abroad. It aims at covering the health and social needs of Anabta’s population. At the beginning, the branch provided basic services (general medicine, laboratory and health education) in two rented premises in Anabta.
Ever since 1994, the branch’s founding committee and successive administrative committees have sought to build new premises to host all health services needed in the area. Contacts were established with Anabta’s population both inside and outside Palestine as well as with Arab and international institutions which support Palestinians. Many have responded to the branch’s appeal, including the Arab Kuwaiti Fund and the Spanish Cooperation Agency. A new building was hence constructed in Anabta on a 1-dunum piece of land donated by the Municipality.
Branch Programs and Services:
I- Primary Health Care
which includes general medicine, a laboratory, a pharmacy, a mother and child clinic and a dental clinic.
II- Youths and Volunteers
PRCS/Anabta has 42 volunteers working in social, cultural, health, sports and arts committees. Through these committees, volunteers implement various activities and open days targeting Palestinians, mainly children and the elderly.
Volunteers also take part in most local activities in the town and the Governorate, including cultural, sports and social events such as the Tree Day, the Disabled Persons Day and Heritage Day. They organize activities in schools to make PRCS, its services and principles, and the International Movement better known.
Committees communicate and network with all local community institutions in Anabta including the Municipality, the Local Anabta Youths Council, the Wassel Center for Youths Development, Civil Defense authorities, the School Follow-up Committee and the Women’s Association.
III- Community Health Program (Safe Motherhood)
The Program was first implemented in Anabta in 2001 with a view to enhancing health and societal awareness and knowledge as well as individual and community self-reliance to solve health problems, ensure community mobilization, operate during emergencies and crises and enhance community-based partnerships. The Program also operates a gym for women in the town.
The community-based health program also targets schools in Anabta by focusing on “school health”. It also runs health awareness-raising campaigns and community-based First Aid courses for pupils. The Program also includes homes visits in case of high risk pregnancies and provides check-ups to elderly persons, newborns and patients suffering from chronic diseases.
IV- Saint John’s Eye Hospital
PRCS/Anabta signed in 2007 an agreement with the Saint John’s Eye Hospital with a view to opening a hospital branch inside the Society’s premises in Anabta to serve the northern West Bank (Nablus, Tulkarem, Jenin, Qalqilia, Salfit and Toubas) which lack specialized ophthalmology services.
V- Speech therapy, learning difficulties and hearing tests
The branch receives school pupils with speech disorders and/or learning difficulties. It also organizes campaigns for the early detection of hearing impairments in cooperation with kindergartens and elementary schools in Anabta.
