Bani Na’im sub branch

 PRCS Bani Na’im branch was created in 2001 with a view to providing humanitarian services to Palestinians in the East of Hebron Governorate, including in Bani Na’im, Al Oddeisseh, Al Shyoukh and Sa’ir as well as to some Bedouin communities. A total of 60 thousand people are estimated to benefit from PRCS services in these areas. The branch’s health center is the only organ providing health care in these areas not serviced by health centers or public hospitals. The branch is managed by an administrative body elected by the General Assembly which comprises 800 members.

Services provided by the branch

I- Health care services, including:

• General medicine section, operating 24/7 and adequately equipped. It serves around 1000 patients per month;

• EMS section, operating 24/7 and adequately equipped. It serves 500 patients per month;

• Nursing and home nursing section which serves elderly patients and persons suffering from chronic disease as well as pre and post-partum women;

• Specialized clinics covering the following fields:
1. Gynecology and obstetrics clinic: manned by two female doctors: a general practitioner and a gynecologist. Its doctors assess cases and at-risk pregnancies, diagnose congenital disorders, place diaphragms and deliver babies if needed;

2. Bone and joint surgery clinic: its staff diagnoses cases, performs minor surgeries, repairs bone fractures and refers serious cases requiring surgery to Hebron hospitals;

3. Ophthalmology clinic: manned by a doctor and skilled technicians who perform certain eye surgeries and remove foreign objects from the eyes;

4. Ear, Nose and Throat clinic: under the supervision of an ENT doctor, the clinic performs minor surgeries and refers serious cases in need of surgery to Hebron hospitals;

5. Pediatrics clinic: manned by a pediatrician who treats pediatric anemia, promotes sound nutrition practices and performs children development tests;

6. Internal and chest disease clinic: manned by a specialized doctor who treats and follows-up on all chronic diseases including heart diseases, hypertension, stomach and colon diseases as well as asthma;

7. Dermatology clinic: manned by a doctor specialized in dermatology and allergies;

8. Laboratory section: Fully equipped to perform laboratory tests. It serves 250 patients per month;

9. X-ray section: it operate 24/7, is manned by an x-ray technician and serves 500 patients per month;

10. Pharmacy: it operates 24/7, provides medicine free of charge to the poor and with 30% off to others. A total of 700 persons benefit from its services;

11. School health section: it treats all emergencies in schools and kindergartens, serving 7000 students per year. It also performs tests, provides health awareness and guidance to students and teachers, and holds First Aid courses to students and high school teachers;

12. Dental clinic: manned by a dentist.

II- EMS services

These services are provided 24/7 by specialized EMTs.

Rehabilitation services

These services are provided through the three following sections:
• Physiotherapy center: Fully equipped, this center is manned by skilled staff and provides patients with assistive devices such as wheelchairs and crutches.

• School for the hearing-impaired: A total of 50 students study in grades 1 to 6 in this school. A kindergarten for hearing impaired children prepares them during two years to enroll in the school. The school employs specialized and trained staff cognizant of sign language, and provides health care, medicine and assistive devices such as hearing aids to students.

• Special education center: It cares for 40 children and is equipped with the necessary medical tool and assistive devices such as wheelchairs and crutches for children with special needs. Children are taught to take care of themselves and are provided with medicine and medical care. The center is manned by teachers and educators specialized in handling disabled children. It comprises the following sections:

1- Educational section: It comprises four special education classes adapted to children’s mental capacities, with a view to teaching them simple skills;

2- Occupational therapy section: It develops the muscles, provides sport exercises as well as physiotherapy and occupational therapy free of charge;

3- Speech therapy section: manned by a speech therapist, it provides services to PRCS students and public school students suffering from speech problems;

4- Toy library: this modern space contains educational games and toys to help develop the mental and physical capacities of disabled children. It lends its games and toys to pupils from kindergartens and schools;

5- Physical fitness section: equipped with fitness equipment, it follows a health program targeting obese persons and persons with special needs in order to prevent obesity-related disease such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiac diseases and vertebral colon illnesses.

6- Home enrichment section: It follows-up on 30 individuals suffering from severe disabilities who are taught certain movements, provided with the necessary toys and tools, medicine as well as with medical and health care by specialized crews.

III- Educational services

These services are provided through nurseries and kindergartens to 350 children taught by trained educators and teachers with modern tools. Children are also provided with medical services free of charge by the branch.
IV- Youths and Volunteers Department

It comprises 250 volunteers under the direction of a specialized committee.

A center for women was established as part of the branch to assist persons in need and persons with special needs. Moreover, a Safe Motherhood Committee was established and visits women in need and families of detained Palestinians. It also raises the awareness of local community ladies and organizes house visits to the elderly.

Moreover, the following services are provided free of charge to the poor, the marginalized as well as to families of detained, disabled or injured Palestinians by PRCS’ Health Care and EMS Departments:
• Medical assistance and assistive devices to families of persons with special needs;
• Milk and staples to poor and needy families;
• Assistance to detainees once they are released;
• Assistance to victims of domestic violence, persons with special needs and their families as well as awareness raising activities targeting local communities through schools, institutions and clubs.
