PRCS Tends To Hundreds of Worshippers at Al Aqsa Mosque

Jerusalem, May 9, 2021 – PRCS teams in occupied Jerusalem worked relentlessly and around the clock during the month of Ramadan, offering first aid to hundreds of worshippers at al Aqsa mosque. First Aid and support were also provided to the inhabitants of Sheikh Jarrah, a Jerusalem neighborhood where Israeli oppression of inhabitants continues and where several families are threatened with evictions.

541 wounded Palestinians were treated by PRCS teams following clashes with occupation forces in the holy city. Protesters suffered from rubber-coated metal bullet wounds, tear gas inhalation and brutal beatings. First Aid was provided to the wounded, many of whom were transported to the field hospital set up by PRCS at its EMS Center in Al Souwwana in order to unburden the city’s hospitals. PRCS also deployed a number of foot EMS teams in and around the Old City.

During these events, numerous violations were committed against PRCS whose ambulances were denied access to areas close to Al Aqsa mosque and Damascus Gate. Moreover, tear gas canisters were fired and skunk water sprayed at its medics, volunteers and ambulances.

Given the large number of casualties, additional PRCS teams headed to Kalandia and the Tunnels checkpoint, both access points to Jerusalem, to support EMS teams already operating in the city. They were however denied access to the city by Israeli occupation forces.
