PRCS President Visits the Gaza Strip

(Gaza City – 12/1/2021):  PRCS President Dr. Younis Al-Khatib visited the Gaza Strip. Under the auspices of President Mahmoud Abbas, Dr. Al-Khatib inaugurated during this visit the Society’s new Central Warehouse in the Gaza Strip, a CT scanning unit at PRCS Al Quds hospital, and a new Safe Space for children with mental disabilities at the Society’s branch in Rafah. The Warehouse was funded by the Turkish Red Crescent and the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), while funding for the Safe Space and CT scanning unit was provided by the German Red Cross and the Netherlands Red Cross, respectively.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Yigit Olcay, head of the Turkish Red Crescent's delegation in Palestine, Ibraheem Abou’l Naja, Governor of Gaza, Dr. Ahmad Al Shibi, Governor of Khan Younes, Ahmad Abou’l Nassr, Governor of Rafah and Salah Abou Wardeh, Governor of the Northern Gaza Strip. Were also present several heads of PRCS branches.

Dr. Al-Khatib welcomed all guests and partners from National Societies. “PRCS was created in 1968 and has been, since then, offering humanitarian services to Palestinians under the umbrella of the PLO. The Society recently marked its 52nd anniversary in a celebration of unity between branches in Palestine and the diaspora”, he said. Dr. Al-Khatib underlined the support provided to PRCS by President Abbas, the Society’s Honorary President, to enhance its steadfastness and enable it to continue serving Palestinians in line with its humanitarian and patriotic mission. “PRCS shall build on its achievements in Jerusalem, Lebanon and Syria. It shall strive to improve its services regardless of challenges”, he added. He also recalled the Society’s mission as an independent national Society offering services to Palestinians in Palestine and the diaspora with a view to enhancing their steadfastness. 

PRCS President then visited the Society’s branches and health and social centers in the Gaza Strip. At Al Amal hospital in Khan Younes, he was briefed about efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
