(Jerusalem – 14/6/2020): As part of the National Relief Campaign, PRCS delivered food parcels to families whose livelihoods have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Families in Al Eizariya, Abou Dis, Al Sawahreh and Al Sheikh Saad, four towns located to the South East of Jerusalem, received this aid provided with support from National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
PRCS President Dr. Younis Al Khatib and the Society’s Vice-President in northern governorates, Ma’moun Abbassi, were present during the distribution process alongside mayors and representatives from Jerusalem Governorate, the Ministry of Religious Endowments and other institutions.
Al Khatib underlined the support provided by PRCS to families in occupied Jerusalem, especially given Israel’s tight security measures in the area and its plan to annex West Bank territory. This support aims, he said, at reducing the economic effects of COVID-19 which are impacting workers everywhere.“PRCS must play a key role in this context. Despite all challenges, mainly the Israeli occupation, the Society shall continue to offer Emergency Medical Services and to transport patients. This is part and parcel of its mission and commitment to help Palestinians”, he added.
Issam Far’on, Mayor of Al Eizariya, valued the humanitarian role and efforts made by PRCS to build the resilience of communities, especially in South-East Jerusalem, so they are better equipped to fight the pandemic. The area’s Joint Municipal Council thanked Dr. Al Khatib and offered him an honorary shield in recognition of the humanitarian services rendered by PRCS, its staff and volunteers.
End.
