‘Humanity and Volunteering’ Mural Unveiled as The National Relief Campaign Kicks Off in Hebron

(Hebron - 11/5/2020): PRCS branch in Hebron unveiled a mural promoting humanity and voluntary service at the Hebron Center B, a shopping mall in the city. Concomitantly, the branch kicked off the National Relief Campaign in Hebron Governorate with the distribution of food packages to families affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.

The mural was unveiled following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by PRCS President Dr. Younis al Khatib and the Head of the Society’s branch in Hebron Dr. Tarek al Jaa’bari. Were also present several members of the branch’s Administrative Board, heads of sections, volunteers as well as representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Al Jaber Company for General Trading.

In his address, Dr.al Khatib said that the mural, created by artist Yousef Katlo with support from ICRC, illustrated the seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. “Through this mural, PRCS helps raise awareness about the important role played by the Movement. It is in this exceptional manner that we have chosen to celebrate the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, marked annually on the 8th of May”, he said.

Al Khatib also underlined the importance of the National Relief Campaign which targets 20 000 Palestinian families affected by the pandemic in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. “Despite all hardships, PRCS is committed to its humanitarian mission and to serving Palestinians, as proven by its various interventions aimed at curbing the COVID-19 outbreak”, he added.

Al Jaa’bari lauded the vital  role played by the Society’s President, staff and volunteers in the field. He also welcomed the innovative ideas put forward by volunteers as well as their dedication to serving both PRCS and Palestinians in general.

Salim al Qaimari, Public Relations Officer at the branch, explained that the mural was the fruit of a joint initiative by ICRC and PRCS Youths and Volunteers Department. “The mural, which took 3 months to be completed, can be seen as depicting life returning to normal as long as preventive measures are respected”, he said. Al Qaimari also lauded efforts made by volunteers who supervised the preparation of food packages distributed during the National Relief Campaign.
