PRCS Condemns the Targeting of an EMT volunteer in Relief Medical Society

(Ramallah - 27/3/2019): PRCS condemns the targeting by Israeli occupation forces of Sajed Mizher, an 18-year-old Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) volunteer EMT, in Al Dheisheh refugee camp on the morning of March 27, 2019. Mizher died after he was shot in the abdomen with live ammunition while in the line of duty. 

The targeting of medics constitutes a blatant violation of IHL provisions. These provisions call for the respect and protection of medical missions to enable them to carry out their humanitarian duties safely and without risking their lives, and ensure relief and emergency services to civilians under occupation. Moreover, the direct and deliberate targeting of civilians and medics constitutes a war crime.  

This crime is the latest in a series of attacks committed against medical missions which include direct attacks on as well as delays and obstruction of movement of EMTs and ambulances.
