A New PRCS’ Sub Branch in Qaryot

(Nablus - 4/10/2018): PRCS inaugurated a new Section in Qaryot (Nablus Governorate) to facilitate the provision of humanitarian and health services to 12 villages located to the South of Nablus. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ma’moun Abassi, PRCS’ Vice-President for Northern Governorates on behalf of PRCS’ President Dr. Younis Al Khatib, Hilal Touffaha, Head of the Society’s branch in Nablus Governorate and Tayseer Khaled, Mayor of Qaryot. Several representatives from the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies as well as from public and civil society organizations were also present.

Tayseer Khaled welcomed and thanked all guests for their presence. This new Sub branch, he said, shall contribute to meeting the humanitarian needs of local residents in an area which suffers due to surrounding settlements.

Ma’moun Abassi conveyed the greetings of PRCS’ President and said that the inauguration of this new Section was part of events held to mark the Society’s 50th anniversary. Despite the great challenges facing PRCS, he added, it endeavors to provide and develop its health, humanitarian and social services in Palestine and the Diaspora. Abassi also commended the Village Council and local residents who took the initiative to create this new Sub branch and to carry out various community-based and humanitarian activities.

Bashar Mou’amar, Head of the Sub Branch’s Administrative Board, said the new sub branch came into being thanks to efforts made by numerous volunteers who have been carrying out community-based and First-Aid activities since 2006 to help residents affected by Israeli settlers’ continuous attacks. He thanked PRCS’ officials at both the Society’s Headquarters and its branch in Nablus for supporting the creation of an EMS Center which forms the core of this new Sub branch and was sponsored by the German Red Cross.

The inauguration ceremony featured artistic performances and the distribution of certificates of appreciation to volunteers and sponsors.
