First-Aid and Community Work Unit Inaugurated in Beit Fajjar

 (Al-Bireh - 6/9/2018):  PRCS inaugurated a new First-Aid and Community Work Unit in Beit Fajjar (Bethlehem Governorate) with support from IFRC and the local community. In addition to emergency interventions, the Unit shall organize awareness-raising workshops and training sessions covering a variety of health, social and psychological issues.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by PRCS’ Executive Bureau member Dr. Mohamad Rizq on behalf of PRCS’ President Dr. Younis Al Khatib as well as by Ma’moun Abbassi, Deputy PRCS’ Director General for northern Governorates. Other notable guests included Beit Fajjar mayor Mr. Akram Takatka and Mr. John Entwistle, IFRC representative in Palestine. Several representatives from public, non-governmental and health institutes in Bethlehem Governorate were also present.

In his opening address, Beit Fajjar mayor welcomed his guests and thanked PRCS and IFRC for creating this Unit which was one of his municipality’s top priorities.

Dr. Rizq conveyed to participants the greetings of PRCS’ President and said that the opening of this Unit was part of a series of events that mark the Society’s 50th anniversary. “Through its network of staff and volunteers, PRCS stands by Palestinians and offers them a wide array of health and social services to help them overcome all challenges”, he added. Dr. Rizq also lauded Beit Fajjar residents for initiating community-based activities such as this one and for seeking to enhance health services in their community.

Ma’moun Abbassi praised local community members for their perseverance and hard work to ensure that the Unit is up and running. He said that PRCS shall continue to support all similar initiatives with a view to enhancing resilience and overcoming challenges posed by the Israeli occupation.

Speaking on behalf of the town’s Volunteers Committee, Mohanad Takatka thanked all volunteers for their efforts and dedication in serving their community and building its resilience. He also valued the role played by Beit Fajjar municipality to facilitate community-based voluntary initiatives.

At the end of the ceremony, diplomas were handed to volunteers from Beit Fajjar who attended the First Responder course organized by PRCS.
