(Jerusalem - 5/7/2018): PRCS inaugurated today a specialized medical center in the town of Koufor Aqab (North of occupied Jerusalem). The center shall cater to the needs of approximately 100 000 Palestinians living in the area, sparing them the trouble of having to go to Jerusalem for treatment at the Society’s hospital. The new center features three obstetrics and gynecology clinics offering a multitude of services as well as follow-up care to PRCS’ Jerusalem hospital patients. It also features an evening Accident and Emergency Ward open till midnight, a lab and X-ray services. A PRCS’ ambulance, operating around the clock, will transport patients when needed to Jerusalem hospitals.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by PRCS’ President Dr. Younis Al Khatib, the President of the Society’s branch in Jerusalem, Dr. Abdallah Sabri, as well as its Director Mahmoud Ilayan, Jerusalem Governor Adnan Al Hussaini and Koufor Aqab Mayor Imad Awad. Several PRCS’ staff and representatives of the civil society were also present.
In his speech, Adnan Al Hussaini highlighted the historical role played by PRCS in Jerusalem, the oPt and refugee camps in the diaspora. This center, he said, will help Palestinians remain steadfast in this marginalized area of Jerusalem.
Dr. Al Khatib said the inauguration of the center coincides with the Society’s 50th anniversary. He spoke about the Society’s creation and development, going back to when it was just a small clinic in 1915.
Dr. Abdallah Sabri spoke in detail about the new center, its modern equipment and the services it will provide to Palestinians living in the area, especially those holding a Jerusalem Identity Card. Such services will include Mother & Child care, fertility services as well as an evening Accident and Emergency Ward open till midnight.
The mayor of Koufor Aqab said the center shall spare Palestinians the trouble of going all the way to the Society’s hospital on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, adding that the entire town of Koufor Aqab stands by PRCS.
