Cutting-Edge Surgical Procedures Performed at PRCS’ Al Quds Hospital

(Gaza – 12/3/2018): A Uniportal Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery to remove a lung tumour was performed for the first time on March 11, 2018 at PRCS’ Al Quds hospital in the Gaza Strip.

Moreover, three cardiac catheterization procedures were also performed by a team of surgeons from occupied Jerusalem specialized in thoracoscopy and vascular surgery assisted by doctors from Al Quds hospital. Patients to undergo these surgeries are usually referred to hospitals outside the Gaza Strip.

The team of surgeons from Jerusalem arrived in the Gaza Strip on March 9, 2018 for a two-day visit coordinated with the Palestinian Ministry of Health and PRCS. It comprised Dr. Firas Abou Iker, Head of the Thoracoscopy Unit at Al Makassed Hospital, and Dr. Jamal Hijazi, Endovascular surgeon.

“This cooperation aims at helping Gaza Strip patients and at teaching medical teams in the Strip pain relief and complication management techniques”, Dr. Abou Iker said. He lauded the high level of services and state-of-the-art equipment and operation rooms available at Al Quds hospital.

According to Dr. Khalil Abu Foul, Director of Al Quds hospital, “PRCS is keen on cooperating with various medical and humanitarian bodies to allay the suffering of Palestinians and support the health sector in the Gaza Strip”. He underlined the importance of transferring medical expertise and building doctors’ capacities via such activities. “In line with directions set forth by  PRCS’ President, we stand ready to cooperate with all those willing to assist patients in the Gaza Strip”, he added.
