PRCS Organizes a Course on Behavioral Change in Gaza City

(Gaza City - 9/10/2017): PRCS organized a training course on Behavioral Change Skills at its headquarters in Gaza City with the participation of thirty PRCS’ volunteers. The course aimed at building health education skills, changing negative behaviors and promoting healthy lifestyle attitudes.

According to Dr. Ramez Al Doosh who heads the Primary Health Care Department at the Society’s branch in Gaza City, “the course is part of the Health Services Project which has been implemented over the past two years with support from the Dutch Red Cross. It targets members of volunteer groups and committees from Al Maghazi, Beit Hanoun and Khan Younes. Similar training courses on behavioral change shall be held in the future to enable volunteers to provide health education in their own communities”.

Mr. Mahmoud Al Ghafri, a lecturer, said the course aimed at changing behavior through effective outreach. It focused on presentation, evaluation and teambuilding skills, collective intelligence, positive interaction with local communities and the respect of cultural diversity and personal beliefs.

Jihan Abou Khaled (28) is a Primary Health Care volunteer from Al Maghazi who took part in the course. According to her, “participants followed the course with interest and were absorbed by the new topics it covered such as presentation and evaluation skills and reaching out to local communities. This teamwork and exchange of experiences as well as the useful lectures given will no doubt help us improve our work as volunteers in the field”.
