PRCS Holds a Ceremony under the banner “Preparedness and Defiance"

PRCS will hold tomorrow Monday the 18th of January 2016 a ceremony under the banner “Preparedness  and Defiance” in commemoration of its founding members, and especially of Dr. Fathi Arafat. The ideas and values promoted by Dr. Arafat, who passed away 11 years ago, continue to live on in the work of PRCS’ staff and volunteers as well as in the humanitarian, social, relief and health services they provide to Palestinians in Palestine and the Diaspora.

As PRCS marks its 47th anniversary, the Society wishes to recall the sacrifices made by hundreds of its staff and volunteers who lost their lives in the line of duty in the Diaspora, especially in Lebanon and Syria, as well as in Palestine where PRCS’ teams are directly and blatantly threatened by Israeli occupation forces as is clearly the case nowadays.

Since 2000, 32 PRCS’ staff and volunteers have fallen in the line of duty in both Palestine and Syria. However, despite all hardships and dangers, PRCS shall continue to discharge its humanitarian duty, build its capacities, enhance its preparedness and boost its human resources in order to face all challenges and at all times.

PRCS represents the humanitarian beacon guiding Palestinians. It has maintained its neutrality and unity while operating in diverse political and geographical settings and in marginalized communities facing complex social, economic and political conditions.

Thanks to the experience it has accumulated over the years in the fields of EMS, disaster response, psychosocial support and the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, PRCS can now help build the skills and capacities of other National Societies within the International Movement both in the region and throughout the world. The Society’s role in this field gained momentum after it became an active member of the IM in 2005. Hence, the Society’s humanitarian action has crossed many borders and reached neighboring and friendly States suffering from disasters and diverse crises.

Let us pay tribute to all PRCS’ staff and volunteers who continue to defy hardships and to make every effort to ensure they reach all those in need.

End.
