UN and WFP Officials Visits PRCS/Hebron

(Hebron - 10/7/2016): A high-level delegation comprising the UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid and Development Activities for the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) Mr. Robert Piper, Head of  Communication and Protection Unit at OCHA Ezekiel Lein, Special Assistant to the Deputy Specail Coordinator at OCHA Adib Berenice, and WFP Senior Program Assistant Majdi Daana visited PRCS’ branch in Hebron.

They were received by Dr. Hijazi Abou Meizar on behalf of Samih Abou Eisheh, Chairman of the Branch’s Administrative Committee, Public Relations Officer at PRCS/Hebron Shadi Abou Sakour, and Director of Emergency Medical Services in the West Bank Dr. Abed Rabbo Manasrah.

The delegation was briefed about collective punishment measures imposed by Israel against Hebron’s population in a crying violation of IHL. Such measures include cordoning off Hebron Governorate, closing down roads and obstructing ambulances and medical crews in besieged areas such as Yatta and Bani Na’im. Delegation members also learned about PRCS’ activities and services provided via its numerous centres in Hebron, including health services offered at PRCS’ Specialized Hospital, rehabilitation services provided by Al Raja’ Centre for Special Education as well as physiotherapy and mental health care.

Mr. Piper lauded PRCS’ activities in Hebron and underlined its professionalism and respect of International Movement principles. This was reflected by the Society’s provision of emergency services without any discrimination to the Israeli victims of a car accident on Al Samou’ Road. He called for the respect of the Red Crescent emblem and for facilitating the movement of Palestinian paramedics and medical teams.

It is to be noted that the Society’s branch in Hebron offers Emergency Medical Services via 11 EMS centres throughout Hebron Governorate.
