Hearing Aids Distributed by PRCS in Salfit

(Al-Bireh - 7/6/2015): As part of the “I Want To Hear” campaign launched by PRCS and the Bank of Palestine (BoP) in June 2015, PRCS distributed hearing aids to persons with hearing disabilities in Salfit Governorate and ensured the aids were properly inserted. The Governor of Salfit, the Head of PRCS/Salfit, the Director of BoP/Salfit, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, the Head of the Society’s Rehabilitation Department and several PRCS’ staff and volunteers attended the distribution of the aids.

Salfit Governor Major General Ibrahim Al Balawi lauded efforts made by PRCS in Salfit and underlined the need for more cooperation in order to provide the local population with the best services possible.

Thafer Alkam, who heads the Society’s branch in Salfit, thanked the Governor, BoP, the Chamber of Commerce, Salfit’s municipality and all PRCS’ sponsors for their support of activities aimed at assisting inhabitants and providing them with appropriate medical, humanitarian and social services.

Mohamad Al Khifsh, Director of BoP/Salfit, praised the campaign and explained that “the Bank allots 5% of its net annual profits towards social responsibility activities in all fields. BoP gives special attention to persons with disabilities, who make up 6% of the Bank’s total workforce, with a view to empowering and rehabilitating them”.

Suheir Badarneh, Head of the Society’s Rehabilitation Department, valued efforts made by BoP to ensure the success of the campaign and to provide hearing aids to persons with hearing disabilities, mainly children and the elderly. She hoped that all private sector institutions would follow in the steps of the Bank by supporting rehabilitation activities carried out by PRCS.

Narmeen Issam Obeid (23) received a state-of-the-art hearing aid which she could not have afforded on her own. “I hope that this new hearing aid will help me hear better and become more integrated in society instead of feeling ashamed of my disability. So far, it has made me more self-reliant and more at ease. My life has changed for the better: I finished high school and will soon obtain a degree in cosmetology. I would like to thank PRCS because it has renewed my hope in life”, she said.

Sarah Bouzieh (10) is hearing-impaired. PRCS provided her with auditory rehabilitation services over several years and she also received a new hearing-aid. The smile is back on her face and she can hear much better now. She is enrolled in a regular school and hopes to achieve better academic results thanks to this new hearing-aid.
