PRCS Inaugurates a Medical Centre in Koufor Kaddoum

(Qalqilia, 20/1/2016): PRCS inaugurated today a medical centre in Koufor Kaddoum (Qalqilia Governorate). The centre, equipped and fitted out in cooperation with the German Red Cross, will serve the inhabitants of this Palestinian town which suffers from continuous Israeli attacks.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by PRCS’ President Dr. Younis Al Khatib, Qalqilia Governor Mr. Rafe’ Rawajbeh, the President of the Wall Resistance Commission Mr. Walid Assaf, the family of Ziad Abu Ain, representatives and volunteers from PRCS/Qalqilia, as well as by many local institutes operating in Koufor Kaddoum and Qalqilia Governorate.

In his address, Mr. Hamza Joum’a, Head of the Koufor Kaddoum Local Council, welcomed those present and lauded efforts made by PRCS especially on Fridays when a popular march is held calling for the re-opening of the town’s main entrance which has been closed since 2000.

Dr. Younis Al Khatib underlined the importance of the centre, named after Ziad Abou Ein, for this town which is directly targeted by occupation forces. He said that in 2016 PRCS shall focus on areas targeted by Israeli occupation forces in order to consolidate Palestinian steadfastness. “We came to Koufor Kaddoum to learn about steadfastness”, he added.

Mr. Assaf commended the role played by the Popular Resistance movement in Koufor Kaddoum which has been resisting the Wall and the expansion of Israeli settlements which he compared to a spreading cancer. “The centre will play a major role because it is located at the heart of the friction zone with Israeli occupation forces”, he added.

Governor Rawajbeh thanked PRCS, which he described as a model of sacrifice and generosity, for the inauguration of this centre which comes as the Society celebrates its 47th anniversary.

The centre was inaugurated under the Community-Based Risk Reduction Program which is implemented by PRCS in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip with a view to building the capacities of local communities so they can face emergencies at all times.
