PRCS Tends to Hundreds of Pilgrims on Their Way to Mecca

(Al-Bireh, 22/9/2014): PRCS provided medical and humanitarian services to hundreds of pilgrims on their way to Saudi Arabia at the Pilgrims’ City on Al Karama border crossing with Jordan.

As in previous years, an emergency medical campaign targeted pilgrims via a mobile clinic, specialized crews and volunteers. The campaign started on the 16th of September, when the first group of pilgrims left Palestine. A PRCS’ doctor and a nurse manned the state-of-the-art mobile clinic, offering emergency services, providing injections against nausea and dizzinessand distributing medicine to patients with chronic diseases and to elderly persons. At least 255 pilgrims benefited from PRCS’ emergency services over three days.

Moreover, tens of PRCS’ volunteers tended to pilgrims at the Pilgrims’ City, directing them to public amenities or to the medical clinic as they waited for their passports to be controlled. Distilled water and educational leaflets on sound health practices during the long pilgrimage journey were distributed to pilgrims.

In all, approximately 4500 pilgrims received medical aid and general assistance from PRCS’ staff and volunteers at the Pilgrims’ City. The Society’s team included volunteers, doctors and EMTs, as well as one ambulance assigned to the border crossing on a daily basis.
