PRCS’ Emergency Meeting for RCRC Movement Components Continues for Second Day in the Gaza Strip

(Gaza - 17/9/2014): The emergency meeting convened by PRCS for RCRC International Movement Components continued for the second day in the Gaza Strip. The meeting, attended by several heads and representatives of Movement components, aims at following-up on humanitarian conditions and responding to the needs of affected populations.

The first session of the meeting focused on humanitarian diplomacy as well as on the protection of civilians and medical missions in times of war and conflict in line with IHL provisions which call for the protection of civilians against the effect of hostilities, ban the targeting of medical missions and call for the facilitation of their work.

The second session discussed coordination procedures and mechanisms among Movement components in order to strengthen support, enhance response to humanitarian needs and ensure that PRCS continues to provide humanitarian services in the Gaza Strip.

Participants had earlier on accompanied PRCS’ President Dr. Younis Al Khatib and its Director General Dr. Khaled Joudeh to Al Qarara and Khouza’a(East of Khan Younis) to take a close look at the destruction brought about by the Israeli attack and the appalling humanitarian conditions caused by massive material and human losses. They also visited PRCS/Khan Younis where they were briefed about the work of its Rehabilitation and Psychosocial Support sections, sports activities and Capacity Building College, as well as about the Society’s interventions during the attack. Participants then toured PRCS’ Al Amal hospital, especially its state-of-the-art Medical Rehabilitation Ward which is the only such ward in the Southern Gaza Strip and is run by a highly qualified and experienced team.
