A grave breach of International Humanitarian Law Israeli forces destroy and confiscate resident’s tents in Khirbet Al-Ja’awna village, East Nablus

On 1 April 2014, the PRCS distributed four tents to four families in Khirbet Al-Ja’awna village, east of Nablus city, after the Israeli occupaying forces had demolished their tents and barracks.

On 10 april, the Israeli occupaying forces reeneterd Khirbet al-Jawa’ana and confisicated the four tents mentioned earlier. In response to the families’ call, the PRCS team provided once again the families with three tents.

Destruction and confiscation of the families’ tents is considererd a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, Article 53 that states: “Any destruction by the occupying Power of real or personal property belonging individualy or collectively to private social or cooperative organizations, is prohibited, except where such destruction is rendered absolutely necessary by milirary operations”.

Furthermore, confiscating the tents provided by the PRCS is another violation of the Fourth Geneva convention. Articles 59 and 63 conlude that the occupying power shall faciliate the relief operations of the National Red Cross and Red Cerscent Societies.
